Sri Lanka to build floating solar plant in reservoir

Sri Lanka will call bids to build a 100 MegaWatt float solar power plant in an irrigation reservoir, Minister Rajitha Senaratne said.

The cabinet of ministers has given the nod international competitive bids to be called to build the plant, in Maduru Oya reservoir, he said.

The plant is expected to cover 4 percent of the surface area of the reservoir which is spread over an area of 500 acres.

The joint proposal was made by President Maithripala Sirisena as minister of Mahaweli Development with the ministries of power and science and technology.
