Poetess Anne Ranasinghe no more

Well-known author and poetess, Anne Ranasinghe, 91, a survivor of the holocaust, passed away late on Saturday night at her home on Rosmead Place, Colombo 7.

She is the wife the late Prof. D.A. Ranasinghe of the University of Colombo who functioned as the Chancellor later.

Her funeral will be held on Wednesday, December 21, at 5 p.m. at the Borella Cemetery crematorium.

Last year, Anne Ranasinghe received the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany, the highest tribute the nation can pay to individuals.

Mrs. Ranasinghe is one of the most well known Sri Lankan writers of recent times and her works have been translated into seven languages. She has received several literary awards, including 2007, the highest distinction of the country Sri Lanka the State Literary Award for lifetime achievement.
