Handover of delimitation report delayed further Featured

The delimitation commission could not handover its report today (27) due to a technical issue, says its chairman Asoka Peiris.

It will take several days to examine and finalize the Tamil translation content of the report for several districts, he says.

Meanwhile, prime minister Ranil Wickremesinghe says a date within the next week of parliamentary sittings will be given for the handover of the report by the commission.

This is pursuant to a request by the commission, says a statement issued by the PM’s office.

Also, leaders of other parties in parliament will be given a date next week to meet the commission to discuss its report, the statement adds.

This morning, Mr. Peiris told Sri Lanka Mirror that he was in difficulties after having said the report would be handed over to the provincial council and local government minister today.

The subject minister is presently overseas.
