Youth stole ‘complaints to president’ Featured

A youth has been arrested for having hacked into tell.president.gov.lk website and stolen more than 100,000 complaints which he has then emailed to a journalist with the intention of getting them published in the media.

Identified as Anuruddha Harshan Abeysuriya of Kathaluwa in Ahangama, he had stolen the documents and audios containing complaints, proposals and grievances from the public.

After receiving a complaint from the Presidential Secretariat some time ago, the CID has kept a watch and found the material surfacing from the journalist in question.

Thereafter, the youth was arrested and under interrogation, he has confessed to what he has done.

Produced before Colombo chief magistrate Lal Bandara yesterday (09), he was remanded until January 19.

The suspect has told the CID that he had entered the website without difficulty, stole the information and sent them to a journalist of a private media institution for action, as authorities had failed to take any measure with regard to these complaints.

The CID also seized computer parts and data from the youth.
