The girls have refrained from partaking meat and fish for the entire week and the canteen banned from selling same, in order to prepare them for the ‘Daha Ata Sanniya.’
Principal Sandamali Aruppola confirmed the ritual would take place for the good of the children.
She explained the value of ‘Daha Ata Sanniya’ but requested that her explanation be no recorded for posting.
We will abide by her request.
However, Ceylon Teachers Union secretary Joseph Stalin criticized the planned event, saying it was sad to see that a leading Buddhist girls’ school was resorting to rituals, instead of giving its students a scientifically-based education.
