FCID at a standstill!

Due to the transferring of the DIG who was functioning as the Director of the FCID to Monaragala and the posts of SSP and SP falling vacant, the FCID is facing a crisis in investigating all the cases that are piling up, it is reported.

The former Director who was transferred to Monaragala, was an officer who carried out his duties meticulously and he had sound knowledge of all investigating files.

As a replacement for the transferred DIG Anura Premashantha, Ampara Division SSP Dammika Priyantha was appointed as a director to the FCID. However, as he is new to his position he is taking a considerable amount of time to carry out the investigations and the lack of staff is adding to the backlog and the FCID investigations are almost at a standstill.

Political interference?

On January 3rd FCID Director SSP Anura Premashantha was promoted to the rank of DIG and removed from his post and transferred to Monaragala.

Anura Premashantha is an officer who received overseas training in financial crimes investigations.

Upon the Independent Commission inquiring FCID Head, DIG Ravi Waidyalankara’s views on the transfer, he said that he had recommended Anura Premashantha’s services to the FCID as vital.
