‘Paththara Malli’ becomes ‘CID officer’ Featured

Neth FM radio’s senior manager Nuwan Jude Liyanage, aka ‘Paththara Malli’, plays the role of a CID officer in award-winning director Thilina Alahakoon’s fifth short film ‘Who Killed Samanmali’, which is critical of the present ‘good governance’ regime.

Nuwan, in a facebook posting, says he had to rehearse smoking for 10 to 15 minutes for the film, although rehearsals for a film normally involve dialogues and acting.

A non-smoker, he practiced on location how to smoke and how to send smoke rings, and subsequently overcame the challenge.

The short film will make its debut at 9.00 am tomorrow (17) at the Centre for Society and Religion at Maradana to coincide with the fourth death anniversary of the Centre’s founder, Rev. Fr. Tissa Balasuriya.

The main role is played by Visaka Jayaweera.

The cast includes, Range Bhagya Suvimali, Thanuja Wijewickrama, Sanjaya Jayasinghe, Lorna Decker, Vipul Pathiraja, Asanka Srimal Fernando, Jude Irantha Fernando, Angelow Gomes, Sudesh Hasanga, Ajantha Prasanna, Anuttara Gamage, NImal Peiris, Ignatius Perera, Staley Dharmadasa, Jude Palitha, Teres William Perera, Tyrone Gomes, Asiri Pethum, Gladston Romesh Scafer, Asitha Fernando, Irosh Chamod, Chandani Alahakoon and Randima Rasadari.

Alahakoon’s fourth short film strongly criticized the then Rajapaksa regime.
