President suspends work on tyre factory in PM’s absence! Featured

President Maithripala Sirisena has instructed the cabinet to suspend construction of a proposed tyre manufacturing factory in Horana until prime minister Ranil Wickremesinghe returns from his visit to Switzerland.

This is due to the problems that have cropped up with regard to the land and the concessions given for the factory.

The PM laid the foundation recently for the factory, while the president did not attend the occasion despite being invited.

A businessman by the name Nandana Lokuwithana is investing Rs. 11 billion on the project.

Meanwhile, the president has reiterated a notice issued to the cabinet on 06 November last year and told the prime minister that only the subject ministers should be submitting papers to the cabinet on matters of development.
