Senior DIG in charge of the northern province Sarath Kumara has been accused of having ordered, and, accepted gratifications from police stations under his charge.

Kilinochchi SSP Palitha Siriwardena made the accusation in a complaint lodged with the office of the DIG of the Wanni on January 17.

In his complaint, Siriwardena requests that Kumara be investigated through the Bribery Commission.

The north’s DIG is accused of ordering around 40 police stations in Vavuniya, Kilinochchi, Mannar, Mullaitivu, Jaffna and Kankesanthurai to send him gratifications.

From 01 to 03 of January, Kumara received at his official quarters ‘gifts’ such as wild game, foreign liquor, cheese, fruits, ornaments and kitchen appliances.

The complaint also requests that the money obtained by the North’s DIG for various functions and from junior officers for entertainment purposes be investigated.
