Journalists send postcard reminder to president Featured

The Sri Lanka Working Journalists Association today (24) started a campaign to send postcards to president Maithripala Sirisena, requesting a presidential commission to inquire into attacks against journalists during the previous regime.

A member of the association Lasantha Ruhunage has told BBC Sandeshaya that they were sending a reminder to president Sirisena over their call, which was first made two years ago.

They want a presidential commission to investigate murders, assaults and abductions of journalists and arson attacks and other acts of intimidation against media institutions.

Ruhunage also said allegations against the present administration that it was intimidating journalists should be investigated as well.

Recently, president Sirisena told journalists that his being a one-time regional correspondent, made him to be one of them.
