‘Declare Muslim leaders too, as patriots’ Featured

State minister M.L.A.M. Hizbullah requests that a gazette be issued announcing as patriots the seven Muslim leaders who had lived in Trincomalee and Batticaloa and branded as traitors by the then British colonial rule.

In a letter to the president, he said these Muslims leaders had engaged in a struggle to safeguard the country’s sovereignty together with the Sinhalese.

The state minister notes the president on 08 December 2016 annulled a gazette notification of 10 January 1818 that identified Sinhala leaders, including Keppetipola Adikaram, who fought against the British, as traitors.
