‘Ravi’s cabinet paper caused Rs. 15 b loss’ Featured

Losses to the Customs from vehicle clearance amounts to Rs. 15 billion as the institution has emerged as one of the worst corrupt institutions in the country, alleged UPFA’s Mahindananda Aluthgamage in parliament yesterday (08).

He charged that Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake had submitted a cabinet paper to release 250 vehicles despite a court order, adding that those vehicles were now being sold.

Noting that the Customs imposed levy on a Montero jeep is a mere Rs. 600,000, Aluthgamage went on to say that it is a daylight robbery.

Speaking further at the debate on the Customs Ordinance, he added that a complaint to the FCID against this fraud has not yet been investigated.
