The removal of Peiris and Gunaratne’s appointment in his place have come in a letter sent on February 07 by secretary to the president P.B. Abeykoon, copied to the secretaries of finance and commerce ministries.
The government had decided that Lanka Mineral Sands should have a chairman and director board.
But, only Peiris, also head of the delimitation committee, had been replaced after local government minister Faizer Mustafa carried tales against him to the president that he had not supported the government in delaying the committee report, political sources say.
‘Ravaya’ reports that prime minister Ranil Wickremesinghe is worried by the appointment of Gunaratne, who works against him, instead of the decision to appoint a chairman and director board for Lanka Mineral Sands.
Peiris, also convener of the ‘public servants for public service’ has strongly condemned the government for influencing the public servants.
