Action against harassment of women in public transport Featured

Police are to take legal action and raise public awareness to prevent harassment of women in public transport.

The programme will coincide with international women’s day on March 08.

Police invites the public to lodge complaints about harassment of women in public transport.

Plying without licenses

Meanwhile, the National Transport Commission reports that 20 buses ply between Colombo and Jaffna without licenses, while the southern expressway too, is having five buses without licenses.

NTC chairman M.A.P. Hemachandra said police assistance would be sought to nab those buses which ply during nighttime.

A gazette notification allows a fine of Rs. 200,000 on a bus that does not have a license.
