Army Major arrested over Keith Noyahr abduction

An Army Major and three army personnel have been arrested by the CID over the abduction and assault of former Co-Editor of ‘The Nation’, Keith Noyahr in 2008.

Major Bulathwatte who was arrested this morning, is also said to be involved in the Lasantha Wickrematunge murder and assault of journalist Upali Tennakone, it was revealed.

A high ranking CID official told the Sri Lanka Mirror that the suspects will be produced before courts this afternoon.

The former Army Commander Sarath Fonseka was alleged to have a hand in the hunting down of journalists at the time.

In response to allegations that the army was responsible for the attacks on media personnel including Keith Noyahr and Namal Perera, responding to ‘BBC Sandeshaya’ Sarath Fonseka had indicated that it was former President Mahinda Rajapaksa who involved the military in these attacks against media personnel.
