Govt. minister helps Rajapaksas to launder ill-gotten money? Featured

The President’s Office has received information to the effect that the Rajapaksas are getting their ill-gotten money laundered through the support of a leading minister in the government.

An official said that a case in point was that a tourist resort built by ex-minister Gamini Lokuge had suddenly been sold to a person identified as Sanka Madhusanka for Rs. 650 million.

This Madhusanka was the head of the Paddy Marketing Board during the Rajapaksa regime, and he also had been in charge of the propaganda campaign in Polonnaruwa against Maithripala Sirisena at the last presidential polls.

He has bought the hotel by obtaining a Rs. 750 million loan from a state bank through the minister in question with the coordination of the Rajapaksas.

Madhusanka is also preparing for a major land purchase, reports say.

The Rajapaksas are getting their cronies to buy, with loans obtained from state banks, the business entities they had bought with ill-gotten money in order to give them some form of legality.

The official of the President’s Office also said the FCID was yet to investigate the complaints of irregularities committed by Madhusanka when he was the PMB chairman.
