This is after questions have been raised over the gazette being issued under the name of former president Mahinda Rajapaksa, who was also the finance minister.
The responsible CB officials are alarmed because it is the bank’s responsibility to send the gazette to the government printer, the sources say.
Rajapaksa has already said that he would take the CB and the finance ministry to courts for having issued the gazette under his name.
The finance ministry too, should be held responsible as the CB sends the gazette for its perusal before sending it for printing, ‘Divaina’ reports.
Meanwhile, a statement by the government printer with regard to the date of printing of the gazette in question will be submitted to the presidential commission inquiring into the bond sales this morning (23) before it starts is deliberations at 10.00 am.
The issuance of the gazette first became public at the commission’s hearing on February 23, when finance secretary Dr. R.H.S. Samaratunga had been giving evidence.
The CID obtained a statement from the government printer on the same day.
The commission will today resume taking evidence from the finance secretary.
