No retirement for the Defence Secretary Featured

Rumours that are being spread that Defence Secretary Karunasena Hettiarachchi is to retire from his post.

However, a Defence Ministry official said the Defence Secretary is currently on leave having undergone heart surgery in Singapore and will be returning to his duties in around two weeks of recuperating.

But, in the event Hettiarachchi retires, it is speculated that Additional Solicitor General, Presidents counsel Kapila Waidyaratne or another Additional Solicitor General, Presidents counsel Yasantha Kodagoda might be appointed to fill the vacancy.  

Additional Solicitor General, Presidents counsel Kapila Waidyaratne is due to retire in June this year and it is learnt that that his name has been proposed prior to that.

Although the Defence Secretary’s post is a very crucial position, Hettiarachchi had come under criticism for the manner in which he performed his responsibilities.
