Senadhipathi has formula to rescue Lankans from pirates Featured

Avant Garde Maritime chairman Nissanka Senadhipathi says he is willing to negotiate with the Somali pirates holding a ship with Sri Lankan crew hostage if he is asked by the government in writing to do so.

Speaking to Sri Lanka Mirror, Senadhipathi noted how his company, together with the Sri Lankan military, protected ships when even the UN was hesitant to tackle piracy at its height in 2012.

He said his company was able to beat back the Somali pirates in the period from 2012 to 2014.

During that period, nine of his men were killed by Somali pirates in 38 attacks, Senadhipathi added.

He went onto say that his company has developed a method to rescue people from pirates, following a nearly seven month study and with the help of a person held captive by the pirates, who later joined Avant Garde.

He declined to give details of that rescue formula.
