Ex-LTTE members stage protest (pics) Featured

A group of former LTTE members, rehabilitated by the military, held a protest at Kilinochchi town yesterday (24) against the northern provincial council.

A top police official in the north told Sri Lanka Mirror said the protestors, numbering around 3,000, marched to the district secretariat and handed over a letter to DS Sudaram Arumainayagam.

They expressed their worries over the NPC’s request for the hundreds of acres of land which they have successfully cultivated with the assistance of the civil defence department.

The council wants the land, taken over by the military during the war, to be returned to their owners.

CDD members serving at the Iranamadu, Vattakachchi, Pooneryn, Mukkampan and Nachchikudah Kiranchi farms and their relatives too, joined in the protest.
