Biggest betrayal since Don Juan Dharmapala - president Featured

President Maithripala Sirisena says he has prevented the betrayal of part of the country through Port city project to China, which he says would have been the biggest since Don Juan Dharmapala’s betrayal of the country.

He advises that people who live in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones.

Speaking at the SLFP-led UPFA’s May Day rally at Getambe in Kandy yesterday, the president also said it was unfair to say politicians had seized control of the international labour day.

Politicians have a responsibility to implement the requests of the working class, he said.

The president said the term ‘labourer’ is a thing of the past, and will be replaced by ‘skilled employee.’

He said he became president to strengthen national reconciliation and make Sri Lanka a developed and intelligence country, but not to crown anyone in his family.

The UPFA May Day processions began from near Girls’ High School in Kandy and from Gannoruwa junction at Peradeniya and converged at Getambe stadium.

Among the SLFP figures present were former president Chandrika Kumaratuga and ex-prime minister D.M. Jayaratne.
