Being a eunuch is more honourable than being a murderer!! Mangala Samaraweera speaks out about insulting labels! What is the truth? (Video)

During parliamentary sessions yesterday (05) a heated argument took place between Minister Mangala Samaraweera and the National Freedom Front. While Mangala Samaraweera had used the term “Thakkadiya” meaning crook, he was attacked in return using the term ‘Ponnaya’ (eunuch).  He was being attacked continuously using the term ‘Ponnaya’ and Samaraweera had reacted saying, it was more honourable being  a eunuch rather than a murderer.

The term ‘Thakkadiya’ or crook refers to a criminal, lawbreaker, offender, villain, black hat, delinquent, malefactor, culprit or wrongdoer. While the word crook does not ridicule or insult any particular group of persons, calling someone a eunuch implies that they are neither male nor female and is a direct insult. This is a word that has been used in society in insult of a particular group of society.

It is known that Mangala Samaraweera prefers male association but there is a huge difference in being homosexual and a eunuch.

However, those who insulted Mangala with the term eunuch was clearly trying to highlight his homosexuality. According to them, all homosexuals are eunuchs and they are destined to be insulted and ridiculed.

Leaving that aside, the word ‘Ponnaya’ also refers to a person who is unable to act independently and wavers in his decisions and one who talks big about being forthright and straightforward but they engage in all sorts of fraud and corrupt activities.

But, isn’t someone who engaged in corruption during the previous regime but portray themselves as heroes before the people and now trying to cut a deal for themselves with the current government, the worst for of ‘Ponnaya’?

When the crimes committed by their sons come to light and all the corruption and fraud committed by them are being revealed, those who say, “Please don’t take these people into the government” the greatest ponnaya?

Further aren’t those who build palaces and have the foundation stone laid by his wife and the when their corrupt actions come to light denying that the palace is theirs by having false documents furnished, ponnayas?

In this political field there are many questions that can be asked including uncultured questions. There are those who don’t even have the courage to serve their time in prison until even their case is taken up, but instead who engage in fast unto death campaigns and pretend to be dying but big talk to the media even greater ponnayas?

These are not questions that we ask but these questions can be asked. However, what we say is that people should not insult anyone calling them eunuchs or ponnayas. There should be a better word for them. Otherwise this word should be solely entrusted to these double standard politicians for their use while the rest of the eunuchs stay quiet.

However, the open minded bold discussion initiated by Mangala Samaraweera is of vital significance. Yes let’s commence discussion!
