50 more withdrawn from Mahinda’s security

The IGP this afternoon (07) ordered the withdrawal of 50 more policemen from the security contingent of ex-president Mahinda Rajapaksa, joint opposition MP Dullas Alahapperuma told Sri Lanka Mirror.

He described it as a clear attempt of political revenge to harm Rajapaksa’s life.

Alahapperuma said this was also a violation of a promise given by law and order minister Sagala Ratnayake that any such security changes would be done after a proper evaluation only.

Ratnayake has told parliament the ex-president was having 187 policemen as his bodyguards.

Thereafter, former president Chandrika Kumaratunga issued a statement, questioning as to why Rajapaksa needed a higher level of security than her.
