Every 6th Sri Lankan suffers from a chronic illness Featured

Every sixth Sri Lankan in the population could be suffering from a chronic illness, according to results of a latest survey by the Department of Census and Statistics.

The highest figures of prevalence of chronic illnesses have been reported from Colombo, Jaffna, Polonnaruwa and Kalutara in that order, said senior statistician Chandrani Jayawickrama.

The over-65 age group shows a higher incidence of chronic illnesses, while the gender and the educational level too, are deciding factors.
