Automatic audio recording at courtrooms Featured

An automatic audio recording system is to be installed at 33 magistrate and district courtrooms in the Colombo high court zone under a pilot project, the Justice Ministry says.

Evidence and verdicts of cases will be automatically recorded by audio, said ministry secretary Padmasiri Jayamanne, in order to provide printed records of the day’s proceedings to parties to the cases.

Also, the Judicial Services Commission will introduce a software for the management of case files at 20 district and magistrate courtrooms.

Based upon the success of these pilot projects early next year, these will be expanded countrywide, said Jayamanne.

Meanwhile, the JSC has issued guidelines to expedite the hearing of court cases, which will be implemented from November 01.
