The press briefing was held at the Lakshman Kadiragamar Centre, Colombo.
The Sarasaviya awards ceremony is set to be held at the Nelum Pokuna theatre on Dec. 15 after being suspended for a period of nearly six years.
However, we learn that an advisor of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa was among the frontliners at the press briefing.
Ranjan too, sidelined
'Sri Lanka Mirror' also learns that deputy minister of Social Empowerment and Welfare - Ranjan Ramanayake, who continuously voiced the need to hold this awards ceremony, too had not been invited.
Upon being inquired of this, Mr. Ramanayake said that he regretted this turn of events and that he learnt that those who had hindered the holding of this awards ceremony all this time, were ironically seated at the press briefing.
He also said that the awards ceremony had come to a standstill in the last few years in a bid to prevent him being awarded as the most popular actor during that period.
The Sarasaviya film awards ceremony began in 1964 by the Sarasaviya weekly newspaper in collaboration with the Associated Newspapers of Ceylon Limited (Lake House), Sri Lanka in recognition of the contributions made by them to the Sri Lankan film industry.
