Call to remove IGP Jayasundara! Featured

Several civil society activists have urged president Maithripala Sirisena to remove IGP Pujith Jayasundara from his position due to the various accusations leveled against him during a very short period.

The latest incident is a telephone conversation he had while addressing a Police Department ceremony in Ratnapura.

Sirasa television on November 30 telecast the footage in which he had answered a telephone call with regard to the arrest of a person referred to as Nilame.

A civil society representative told Sri Lanka Mirror that the president was considering their request to remove the police chief.

IGP was wrong - president

In parliament yesterday (01), president Sirisena answered a question and said Jayasundara would be asked to explain his conduct of having had a telephone conversation while being on a public platform.

MP Wimalaweera Dissanayake, who raised the matter, asked if the person referred to was Basnayake Nilame of Devinuwara Devale Mahesh Gunawardena.

Sagala Ratnayake gave the call?

Chief opposition whip Anura Kumara Dissanayake minister claimed Sagala Ratnayake gave the call to the IGP, and said if it was not him, Ratnayake should declare that in parliament.

According to reports reaching SLM, it was minister Ratnayake who had given the call.

Given below is the video of the telephone conversation.
