Military Spokesman Brigadier Sumith Atapattu said the situation in Kandy is normalising.
“Except for a few minor incidents, the situation in Kandy is returning to normal and no serious incidents were reported,” he said.
Meanwhile, Provincial Councillor Hidayath Saththar said a house was burnt and several stoning incidents were reported yesterday.
He said subsequent to last evening’s violent incidents the Navy was deployed in several areas, which had helped in bringing the situation under control.
Meanwhile, the Government Information Department issuing a statement said curfew would be re-imposed at 6.pm today.
The statement said the curfew was lifted in order to allow the public to attend to their daily chores. “This relief period has been given to the public to attend to their essential duties and it should be used responsibly,” the communique by the Government Information Department Director General Attorney Sudharshana Gunawardena read.
