Guards disregard rains to protect ancient monuments (pictures) Featured

Guards providing protection to monuments at the historic Polonnaruwa city have to carry out their responsibilities while getting soaked during rainy weather, as their watch-huts are in a very dilapidated condition.

They have been deployed by the CCF and the Cultural Affairs Ministry.

Speaking to Sri Lanka Mirror, the guards said they could not keep their duty log books safely, and that on rainy days, they had no proper place to have their meals.

More than a year ago, six watch-huts began to be constructed in the city, but the work is yet to be completed.

Attempts to reach the Polonnaruwa project director, and the director general of the CCF Prishantha Gunawardena both were unsuccessful.
