40% of terrorism-related court hearings completed

The hearing of around 40 per cent of the nearly 100 terrorism-related cases has been completed with the establishment of a separate court to try those accused, says minister Wijedasa Rajapakse.

Speaking to the media yesterday (05), he said only the cases relating to serious incidents remained to be heard.

Minister Rajapaksa said it was a very difficult task to gather evidence in a terrorism-related case, and noted that some of the cases have been withdrawn due to a lack of evidence, death of witnesses etc.

He went onto say that the drafting of new laws to address discrepancies in granting bail and punishments was underway.
