Politicians interfere in inland revenue officers’ duties Featured

While deciding to open new tax files, the government at the same time prevents the implementation of the measure which is underway at regional inland revenue offices, the Inland Revenue Employees Union alleges.

At the Ratnapura regional office, a ruling politician has disrupted the opening of the tax files, as some of them were for his businessmen friends, says the union.

These businessmen are reportedly evading tax payments on political patronage.

The subject minister too, is siding with them, which results in the disruption of duties of the inland revenue officers, says the union.

Condemning this political interference, the union requests the president and other authorities to create an atmosphere for the officers to carry out their duties.
