Hambantota clash- 27 hospitalised- 23 remanded (update)

Due to the clash in Hambantota today 27 persons who sustained injuries are currently receiving treatment at the Hambantota, Ambalantota and Sooriyawewa hospitals.

Of the injured, 11 are police officers.
According to Police, 23 suspects are in custody in connection with the incident.

Hambantota clash, ten injured

Update – Ten people were injured including three police personnel, during the clash that occurred at the Mirijjawila area in Hambantota during the opening of the Sri Lanka-China Industrial Zone Development Project.

A tense situation erupted at the premises of the Investment Development zone between a group of protestors and another group, while police used tear gas to disperse the protestors.

A tense situation has erupted at the Southern Development programme initiation ceremony grounds in Hambantota, it is reported.

A tense situation erupted at the premises of the Investment Development zone between a group of protestors and another group, while police used tear gas to disperse the protestors.

Meanwhile, the gigantic Southern development project the Sri Lanka- China industrial zone was declared open under the patronage of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.

The Maha Sangha, Chinese Ambassador Yi Xianliang and many ministers, MP’s and secretaries attended the ceremony.
