Temple lands will not be taken- PM

The temple lands and archaeological sites will not be taken for the construction of the Southern development zone, said Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.

Ninety five percent of the lands allocated for the project are state lands, the PM said today laying the foundation stone for the Hambantota Economic zone.

He also said a committee will be appointed with Minister Sagala Ratnayake and former Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa to oversee the construction of the Southern Economic zone.

The PM said the government’s aim was to transform Sri Lanka into a powerful country and no one can stand in its path.


China to invest another $5 billion

Meanwhile Chinese Ambassador Yi Xianliang said China expects to invest $ 5 billion for the development of the Southern Sri Lanka-China development zone within the next five years.

He further said that upon commencement of this project it would also generate 100,000 employment opportunities.
