H’tota security breach under investigation

Police headquarters is investigating as to how supporters of MP Namal Rajapaksa were able to go near the ceremony of the southern industrial development zone launch and pelted stones at the participants.

The incident occurred despite a court order banning protests for 14 days, the area being sealed off after strict searches and only those chosen being allowed to the ceremony.

The stone attack occurred 10 minutes before the arrival of the prime minister, but other VVIPs including the Chinese ambassador were already there.

That disturbed government supporters who tried to retaliate, but the STF intervened to prevent a clash.

Or else, even harm to life could have occurred, a senior police official told Sri Lanka Mirror.
