Max retail price on rice to be imposed

A maximum retail price for rice has been announced with effect from today (06).

The Finance Ministry has said that the maximum retail price of Nadu and Raw (Kekulu) will be Rs. 70 and Samba Rs. 80 per kilo.

Last week, minister of Industry and Commerce - Risath Bathiudeen said that strict legal measures will be taken against errant traders who are violating the price cap issued by the ministry for rice.

Speaking at an event at the BMICH, Colombo on Feb 03, the minister said that after talks with the President, Prime Minister and several ministers, it was decided to reduce the price of a rice kilo to Rs. 66.
