No more garbage in Muthurajawela

The Supreme Court today (05), issued an injunction order prohibiting the Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) from dumping garbage in Muthurajawela .

Accordingly, the judge bench comprising Chief Justice Priyasad Dep and Justice Upali Abeyratne ordered that garbage dumping was prohibited till July 20.

A FR petition was filed on June 14 by residents seeking a court order against the disposal of garbage at the Muthurajawela site.

The petition states that although the area being named an Environmental Conservation Zone,  waste collected from Colombo was being disposed in Muthurajawela resulting  in environmental and health hazards.

As a result of garbage dumping, the water sources in the Negombo and Muthurajawela areas were affected.

Hence, during a meeting in Colombo yesterday (04), Megapolis and Western Development Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka said garbage dumping in Muthurajawela and Delathura areas will be stopped from next Friday.
