The arrest was made at a house in the Hathareskotuwa area in Gal Oya over a tipoff received by a special unit of the Polonnaruwa police.
Two persons were arrested while three three stag antlers, three deer antlers as well as an elephant skull and two locally produced firearms were seized.
The suspects have revealed that they had killed the animals at the Kaudulla National Park and had intended to sell an elk antler and a deer antler for Rs. 10,000 each and the elephant skull for Rs. 40,000.
The suspects have also confessed to committing similar activities in the past in several parts of the country.
Further investigations are underway.
