Injunction preventing Maithripala from functioning as SLFP chairman, extended

The Colombo District Court has ordered to extend the interim injunction issued preventing former President Maithripala Sirisena from functioning as the Chairman of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP), until May 09.

This order was issued when a case filed by former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga was taken up before the court today (April 18).

On April 04, the Colombo District Court issued an enjoining order preventing Mr. Sirisena from functioning as the SLFP chairman and the SLFP politburo appointed Nimal Siripala de Silva as the party’s Acting Chairman on April 08.

Respiratory illnesses on the rise amid rainy weather

Health authorities report an increase in respiratory illnesses due to the prevailing rainy weather conditions.

Consultant Dr. Athula Liyanapathirana of the Epidemiology Division of the Ministry of Health, stated that vulnerable groups including young children, the elderly, pregnant women, and those with chronic diseases should exercise extra caution during this period.

He further advised the public to seek immediate medical care if experiencing difficulty in breathing.

Railway technicians launch 24-hr token strike

Railway technicians and technician assistants have commenced a 24-hour token strike from 7.00 am today (June 26) citing unresolved issues regarding overtime payments.

Accordingly, the Secretary of the Sri Lanka Freedom Railway Workers’ Association (SLFRWA) – Nadeera Manoj stated that despite notifying the authorities, no solution has been provided so far.

Police transfers: 32 senior officers reassigned

A total of 32 senior police officers including 09 Deputy Inspector Generals (DIGs) and 16 Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs) have been transferred with immediate effect, the Police Media Division announced.

These transfers, approved by the National Police Commission, aim to meet service and administrative requirements.

Key changes include DIG Nihal Thalduwa being reassigned from the Central Crimes Investigation Bureau (CCIB) to serve as the DIG in charge of the Monaragala District.

DIG J.R. Dias, currently DIG (Staff), has been appointed as the new head of the CCIB, in addition to his existing duties.

The announcement also includes the transfer of 02 Superintendents of Police (SPs) and 05 Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASPs).
