Water supply restored in Colombo district

The National Water Supply and Drainage Board (NWS&DB) has announced that the water supply to Godagama, Homagama, Pannipitiya, Pelanwatta, Rukmalgama, and Mattegoda areas has been restored today (18).

The disruption occurred due to damage to the transmission pipeline from the Kalatuwawa Treatment Plant, caused by a car accident on Monday morning. 

The vehicle veered off the road and collided with the pipeline near Godagama, close to the High-Level Road, affecting over 100,000 housing units.

The NWS&DB confirmed that repairs were completed, and the water supply was restored by around 2:00 a.m. today. Water supply to some remote areas is expected to be restored within the next few hours.

CID detains 30 Chinese nationals for online financial fraud

At least 30 Chinese nationals have been arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

Police Media Spokesman DIG Nihal Thalduwa said that the group was arrested while staying at a hotel in Negombo.

He has stated that they were arrested on charges of financial fraud carried out online.

Meanwhile, a total of 137 Indian nationals who are allegedly part of a group engaged in a large-scale online financial scam operation have been arrested by the CID within yesterday (27) from multiple locations in the country.

The Police Spokesman further stated that in total, 158 mobile phones, 16 laptops, and 60 desktop computers were seized from the 137 Indians arrested.

UNP General Secretary’s son arrested after car accident

Yasodha Range Bandara, the son of United National Party (UNP) General Secretary Palitha Range Bandara, has been arrested following a car accident that occurred early this morning (29). 

The incident had occurred at around 4.30 a.m. in the Elephant Pass area near the 7th Mile Post, Mee-Oya, Karuwalagaswewa.

The car driven by Yasodha Range Bandara had reportedly veered off the road and collided with a three-wheeler. 

The driver of the three-wheeler had sustained serious injuries in the crash and has been admitted to the Puttalam Base Hospital for treatment.

Karuwalagaswewa Police are conducting further investigations into the accident.

Over 1,200 kilos of narcotics to be incinerated in Vanathavillu today

The local authorities are set to destroy a total of 1,208 kilograms of narcotics at the high-powered incinerator situated in Wanathavilluwa, Puttalam today (29).

This follows a directive from the Aluthkade Magistrates Court to dispose of the seized drugs, which include 614 kilograms of ice, 581 kilograms of ketamine, and 13 kilograms of heroin.

The process will commence with the transportation of the illicit substances from the Aluthkade Magistrates Court premises to the incinerator site in Puttalam.

Located on 20 perches of land in the Lactose Garden area of Vanathavilluwa, the incinerator has been installed under the supervision of the Special Task Force (STF). 

The Sri Lanka Navy undertook site preparation, while the Sri Lanka Police allocated Rs. 6.34 million towards the setup, ensuring all necessary infrastructure and security measures were in place for the operation.
