The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has interdicted Colombo Fort Magistrate Kosala Senadheera.

The move to interdict the magistrate comes after the JSC concluded an inquiry into a complaint that Mr Senadheera, during the time he held the post of Mount Lavinia Magistrate, had illegally tapped the electricity supply given to the Mount Lavinia Magistrate’s Court and used it to power his official residence.

During its initial inquiry into the complaint, the JSC had recorded evidence from 20 witnesses. The witnesses included two high court judges as well as officials from the Ceylon Electricity Board and the National Water Supply and Drainage Board.

Mr Senadheera is currently serving as the Colombo Fort Magistrate. Nugegoda Magistrate Thanuja Jayasinghe has been appointed as the new Colombo Fort Magistrate with immediate effect following Mr Senadheera’s interdiction by the JSC.

Magistrate Ruwani Jayawardena meanwhile, has been appointed as Nugegoda Magistrate to fill the vacancy created following Ms Jayasinghe’s appointment as the Fort Magistrate.
