A police sergeant who was arrested by the Wattala police for the brutal treatment of a female, has been remanded.
Welisara Magistrate Thusitha Dhammika Uduwawidana today (17) ordered to remand the sergeant until July 20.
The sergeant named Ajith Withanage, who is attached to the Ja-Ela police, had reportedly handcuffed a woman and publicly dragged her on the Wattala main road, beating her until she bled.
The magistrate had pointed out the suspect’s conduct cannot be condoned at all.
Although the Wattala police had informed in a report that that they did not object to bail, the magistrate ordered the suspect to be remanded, pointing out that the police needed time to investigate the incident.
