42 vehicles missing from Department of Posts

Published

on

A report issued by the National Audit Office said that the Department of Posts has no information about 42 vehicles registered under the name of Postmaster General.

The report said that this information was revealed when comparing the details taken from the Department of Posts with the details obtained from the Department of Motor Traffic.

Postmaster General Ruwan Sathkumara said that these vehicles are more than 30-50 years old.

The Postmaster General said that the information about these vehicles have been recorded with the Motor Traffic Department, but the items are no longer with the Department of Posts.

He said that he has requested the Motor Traffic Department to provide the information immediately if these vehicles are being operated anywhere else in the country or if anyone has obtained revenue licenses for them.

However, Mr. Sathkumara said that the information has not yet been provided by the Motor Traffic Department and said that if there is no information available about the vehicles, they have also requested to remove them from the data system.

In the meantime, the audit report said that even though bus number ’60 Sri 7256′ of the Department of Posts had been taken out of service, no further action had been taken.

Postmaster General Satkumara said that steps have already been taken to use the bus for the promotional campaigns of the Stamps Bureau.
