Ban imposed on 5 organization under PTA, lifted

The Ministry of Defence today (27) issued an Extraordinary Gazette, lifting the ban imposed under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA) against five organisations.

The relevant gazette was issued by President Ranil Wickremesinghe, in his capacity as the Minister of Defence.

Accordingly, the bans imposed on the United Thawheed Jamma’ath (UTJ), Ceylon Thawheed Jamma’ath (CTJ), Sri Lanka Thawheed Jamma’ath (SLTJ), All Ceylon Thawheed Jamma’ath (ACTJ) and the Jamiyathul Ansaari Sunnathul Mohomadiya (JASM) have been repealed.

In the interest of national security, public order and the rule of law, 11 organisations were banned under Section 27 of the PTA, as per the Prevention of Terrorism (Proscription of extremist Organizations) Regulations No. 2 of 2021, which was published in Gazette extraordinary No. 2223/3 of April 13, 2021.

Country has sufficient insulin stocks – Nalinda

Minister of Health Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa has assured that the government has already distributed sufficient insulin stocks for the next four months.

Therefore, he urged the public not to have any unnecessary fears over the matter.

Speaking earlier today (April 22) during the weekly Cabinet briefing, he assured that there is enough insulin available in the country until September this year.
He added that measures are taken to maintain medicine stocks sufficient for a period of four to six months to prevent any shortages.

Weather advisory for severe lightning & heavy rain

The Department of Meteorology has issued a warning for strong lightning and heavy rain in several parts of the country, effective until 11:00 pm today (April 22).

Thundershowers accompanied by intense lightning are expected this evening and tonight in the Eastern, Uva, Central, and Northern provinces, as well as in the Hambantota and Polonnaruwa districts.

Temporary strong winds may also occur during these storms.

Police appoints committee to study PCOI report on Easter Sunday bombings

Sri Lanka Police have appointed a four-member committee to study the final report of the Presidential Commission of Inquiry into the Easter Sunday bomb attacks.

According to Police Spokesman SSP Buddhika Manathunga, the committee is headed by a Senior DIG, Asanka Karawita.

The remaining members consist of the DIG in charge of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), the Director of the CID, and the Director of the Terrorism Investigation Division (TID).

He added that several more sub-committees have been appointed under the purview of the main committee.
