PM Harini orders immediate audit of Sports Ministry funds

Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya has called for a rapid internal audit of the Ministry of Sports’ financial allocations, focusing on transparency and accountability. 

While expenditure data exists, there has been no evaluation of progress linked to the allocated funds, she emphasized.

Speaking to Ministry officials on September 27, Dr. Amarasuriya highlighted concerns over wastage and urged the reduction of spending on non-essential events. 

She also directed the formation of institutional committees to tackle fraud and the development of programs addressing abuse in sports.

The meeting was attended by Prime Minister’s Secretary Mr. Pradeep Saputantri, the Secretary of the Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs, Mr. K. Maheshan, and other senior officials from the Ministry.

Suspects arrested over Kandana & Ragama shootings

Police have arrested several individuals over the separate shooting incidents that recently took place in Kandana and Ragama.

Accordingly,  02 individuals have been arrested in relation to a shooting that occurred in Kandana on July 03, resulting in one death and several injuries.

The arrested suspects, aged 25 and 26, are residents of Kandana.

Meanwhile, another suspect has been arrested over the murder of  ‘Army Upul’ that took place in front of a residence at Batuwatte, Ragama on July 03.

The suspect, along with another person, was arrested during an operation carried out by the Divisional Crime Detective Bureau in Kelaniya in the Batuwatta area of Ragama yesterday (July 08).

Accordingly, at the time of the arrest, the suspect was found in possession of 67 kilograms of Kerala Ganja, 9.22 kilograms of heroin, two SMG firearms, 10 bullets, and two magazines.
