22 students hospitalized after suddenly falling ill

22 female students at a school in Balangoda have been admitted to Base Hospital Balangoda after experiencing sudden health complications.

It is reported that several girls from the C.C. Tamil Maha Vidyalaya in Balangoda had cleaned the women’s toilet with a certain chemical solution.

Subsequently, the students who cleaned the toilet as well as several other children who used the toilet, had fallen ill.

Vraie Cally Balthazaar of the National People’s Power (NPP) officially assumed duties as Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) Mayor today (June 18).

The most talked-about candidate in the 2025 Local Government Election, Balthazaar was elected the 26th Mayor of the CMC while receiving 61 votes following a secret ballot on Monday (June 16).

She becomes the second female Mayor of CMC, following Rosy Senanayaka.
