Gammanpila challenges Vijitha

Published

Former MP Udaya Gammanpila today (Oct. 28) challenged Cabinet Spokesman and Minister Vijitha Herath to substantiate the allegations of misconduct against retired judge S.I. Alwis, who had chaired an investigative committee appointed to probe the 2019 Easter Sunday attacks.

Speaking at a media briefing in Colombo, Gammanpila questioned the credibility of the accusations made by Minister Herath.

“Anyone can make accusations, but if an accusation is made, it must be proven with evidence. That’s why I challenged Minister Vijitha Herath to present evidence of Judge Alwis’s alleged misconduct at the next government press conference,” he said.

He also urged the government to investigate an individual who identified himself as a top government official in the video by ‘Channel 4’ done on the attacks.

Gammanpila also disclosed details of the investigation report on the said video, which was compiled by a committee, headed by Retired Supreme Court Justice S.I. Imam.

“If the person who made comments accusing the intelligence agencies and army officers in the video clip aired on Channel 4 pretending to be a high-ranking official of the government, is currently holding a high position in the government, then the current government must take action against him for treason,” Gammanpila had said.
