Parliament convenes for first session of 2025

The Parliament of Sri Lanka conveed for its first session of the new year today (07) at 9:30 a.m., under the patronage of Speaker Dr. Jagath Wickramaratne.

Accordingly, time has been allotted from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. today for Questions for Oral Answers.

Subsequently, from 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., the Adjournment Debate on “Mid-Year Fiscal Position Report – 2024” by the government has been scheduled, the Secretary-General of the Parliament said.

Parliament sessions are scheduled to continue throughout the week until Friday (Jan. 10).

Supplementary Medical Professionals launch strike

Joint Council for Professions Supplementary to Medicine (JCPSM) has launched an island wide strike in hospitals today (05) due to the Ministry of Health not providing solutions to tissues they have raised.

General Secretary of the JCPSM – Chanaka Dharmawickrama, had previously stated that the strike will begin at 8.00 am today,

However, it has been noted that specific institutions, including the Cancer Hospital, Maternity and Children’s Hospitals, Kidney Hospitals, and the Central Blood Bank (CBB), will not be affected by the strike.

Dharmawickrama, also stated that five professional bodies including medical laboratory services, pharmacy sectors, and others, will join the strike today.

The JCPSM has emphasised that it will not call off the strike unless a formal discussion is held and tangible steps are taken to address their concerns.

Coastal line train delays
