Road Development Authority Director General – F. M. P. Suriya Bandara states that Special Task Force (STF) officers have been re-deployed to expressways starting from last night (March 10).
This deployment is intended to provide life-saving and firefighting services in the event of accidents on the expressway.
The Ministry of Defense removed the Police Special Task Force from the operation carried out by the Sri Lanka Police Department during the previous government a year ago.
Accordingly, STF officers are now being deployed for life-saving and firefighting services in the event of accidents on the Southern Expressway, Southern Expressway Extension, Colombo Outer Ring Road, New Kelaniya Bridge, and Colombo-Katunayake Roads.
In addition, a team of 20 officers will be assigned to protect property along the expressways, with a particular focus on addressing incidents of property theft by drug addicts, which have been reported recently, especially on the New Kelani Bridge along the Colombo-Katunayake Road and Colombo Outer Ring Road.
