37 injured in bus crash at Aladeniya

A private bus traveling from Yatihalagala towards Kulugammana on the Aladeniya–Yatihalagala–Kulugammana road veered off the road near the Kulugammana junction and plunged down an embankment, resulting in an accident last night (12th).

According to police reports, 37 individuals were injured in the incident.

Among the injured are the bus driver, 9 other men, 20 women, and approximately 8 children.

They were admitted to the Kandy, Peradeniya, and Thittapajjala hospitals for treatment.

It is reported that the passengers were a group from the Galgamuwa–Ahetuwewa area, traveling to Kandy on a pilgrimage.

The condition of the injured is not critical, and the Aladeniya Police are conducting further investigations.

Fire erupts at timber shop in Bokundara

A fire has broken out at a timber sales outlet along the Piliyandala-Colombo main road in Bokundara, Piliyandala.

Four fire trucks and a team of firefighters from the Dehiwala-Mount Lavinia Municipal Council have rushed to the scene to contain the blaze. Authorities are also seeking additional support from the Colombo Municipal Council fire brigade.

A330-200 to fly low from Port City to Pandura – Timing revealed

SriLankan Airlines’ newly added Airbus A330-200 will perform a low-altitude flyover from Colombo Port City to Pandura today (04), between 8:15 a.m. and 9:30 a.m., allowing the public to enjoy a clear view of the aircraft.

According to SriLankan Airlines, the aircraft will then return to Bandaranaike International Airport in Katunayake.

The airline invites general public to witness this special event.

Showers expected in several areas today

Several spells of showers will occur in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central and North-western provinces and in the Galle and Matara districts today (June 04).

Showers or thundershowers may occur in a few places in the Uva province and in the Ampara and Batticaloa districts during the afternoon or night.

Fairly strong winds of about 30-40 kmph can be expected at times over the Western slopes of the central hills and in the Northern, North-central, North-western and Southern provinces and in the Trincomalee district.

The general public has been requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
