Showers will occur at times in Sabaragamuwa province and in Kandy and Nuwara-Eliya districts, the Department of Meteorology said.
Several spells of showers will occur in the Western and North-western provinces and in Galle and Matara districts today (June 23).
Showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in the Uva province and in Ampara and Batticaloa districts during the afternoon or night.
Fairly strong winds of about 30-40 kmph can be expected at times over Western slopes of the central hills and in Northern, North-central, Southern and North-western provinces and in Trincomalee district.
The general public has been requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
Fishing & naval community warned of strong coastal winds
Meanwhile, the Department of Meteorology has advised the fishing and naval community to exercise caution due to strong winds and rough sea conditions in several coastal areas.
Wind speeds may reach 50–60 km/h at times in sea areas from Chilaw to Kankesanthurai via Mannar and from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota, making the seas rough at times.
Additionally, winds of 45–50 km/h and fairly rough seas are expected from Chilaw via Colombo and Galle to Matara, and from Kankesanthurai via Mullaitivu to Trincomalee.
